Final Semester Illustration

Our final illustration was probably one of the most taxing ones not only because of the time spent on it, but the number of times we would need to redraw the same picture. The project took about 4 weeks to completely with many progressive steps along the way. It started out from a small thumbnail sketch based on a nursery rhyme to an 11x14 inked illustration. The inking process was done with a Crowquill pen over the course of about 40+ hours (2 days straight).

During the project, we had to figure out the importance of the compositional layout, how it reads and tells the story, and how it leads our eye. Overall, I actually think its a very successful illustration.

The subject is Icarrus fighting a serpent to help protect a city in the mountains (in short). In this shot, he is slightly dodging a fire blast coming from the serpent while a part of the city below is on fire. If you want to know the rhyme I chose, I'll provide it below the illustration.
