Early Ani 113B Work

So very sorry for posting this late. The beginning of the 2013 semester started out great with an awsome life study of a pinecone. First we made a pencil rendering of the pinecone, then a light paint wash, and finally a rendering. Below is the result of the pinecone color rendering I made:

I actually won first place in the class competition! Totally surprised and Honored

The main homework or "exercise" work we did during the school weeks was to go out and sketch 25 good, observed trees in out sketchbook. Each one had to be different and studied carefully. Below are a couple of my pages:

Then about half way through the semester, we started the "25 Tree Ideations" and what the trees would look like in 50 years. We we're also told to try and create an interesting story with the trees as they age:

The projects for this class were actually pretty fun and very educational. My personal objective for this class was to try and observe more as well we loosen up my drawing technique while learning more about story.

Father's Day

Had a friend in a game ask me to draw him all Hansom and Beautiful. He's also a dad and father's day is coming up here pretty quick, so why not kill two birds with one stone? : p

Happy Father's Day!

Wonderful Wonderful Modeling: Ani 51a

Okay, when people told me Maya would be like ripping the skin off my face, I thought that might have been an exaggeration. By no means is that analogy a false statement. I spent most of my weekends in the labs fixing UV, texture, and bump maps as well as wonderful errors Maya randomly decided to produce. It was a well deserved fight, but in the end I actually produced something kind of decent.

The final project for Ani51a (modeling) was to model, map, and render a Webbley Gibbson Mark 2 flare gun before the semester was over. The part I enjoyed fairly much was the modeling, creating cool things that work together and are presented visually. Below are both Wireframe Renderings of my gun as well as the final 3 renders of the gun with maps on:

Winter 2012 Portfolio Sketchbook

After passing the portfolio review, we were require to fill 50 pages of an 6x8in sketchbook for the winter break (dec- jan 24th). I chose a couple interesting pages from the sketchbook (in no particular order) that could possibly have contributed to me passing. I went many places such as Squaw Valley and Disneyland during the break as well as small petting zoo's with a couple friends. Overall it was a fun, but cold experience.

Also sorry for the poor quality

Worked hard during the break to produce them!

Ani 113a Final Renderings

Wow what a really rough semester. I think most people in Inga's Ani 113a class got the crap kicked out of them, but in a good way. I also passed the first part of the portfolio review! I can't believe it! I'm so glad I applied now (thanks to the positive motivation and feedback from my peers) and would just like to voice that one should never doubt themselves. Always try even when your unsure. Anyways, now I have to do a 50 page sketchbook during the break (I'll try to keep the blog updated with that) and am totally excited to get out and explore. Going to several cool places so hope to get good work in then.

Going back to Inga's class, this semester was my first time painting, learning about color as well as the values they portray. Throughout the course, we did drawings of objects such as eggs, mugs, cubes, etc and then painted them in B/W to understand value and later switching to color after finishing the famous color grid.

At the end of the course, with the completion of 16 color comps, we chose the one we liked most and blew it up into full scale. Both the final B/W still life rendering (1 month) and the Color Rendering (2 weeks) are seen below. Hopefully in the future I can figure out how to get rid of the glare on the Acrylics.

(Sorry if it takes a second to download; files are a bit big)

Towards the end of the course, we also started painting quick still lives in class, learning about the light sources and reflection of color onto other objects. They were great exercises and even though I didn't get to finish everything, I would still like to post what I have done:

Still life 1: Green Apple with mug on Green Drapery

Still life 2: Eggplant with Lemon on Red Drapery

Overall, I have improved a lot. Especially for a person who has never painted since the beginning of the semester. The one advice that was presented to me before I left for the winter session was, " You're too much of a perfectionist. Loosen up a little". Hopefully with more practice in my sketchbooks and personal studies that will happen. Excited to see what I'll learn next in 113b!

I have more work too from Ani 112B but will post that at a later date. For now I need to focus on the program sketchbook :P
